My dear little Sofie has ben thru so much these past few months and it all seems to continue to crash down on us. :( But we try and find the good amongst it all. We finally got our appointment with the allergist and we had to do four days of no antihistamines prior to our appointment. We were so nervous about it because everyday she sneezes and has booger blowouts, so we dreaded the four days but we knew it was for her own good and that the results of the test would be more accurate.
We went out and bought a air purifier for every room and a HEPA filter for the A/C which we should have anyways. We kept Sofie inside the apartment for all four days so that she wouldn't be bothered with any pollen, dirt, etc. that could set off a allergy attack.
Well today was test day!
All four days she did perfect, hardly any sneezing and no breathing treatments, for a second I thought maybe it was all over. However on our way to the doctor she had started to cough and sneeze and while we were waiting for the doctor in the doctors office it got worse. Boooooo! So we answered his 1000002 questions about her symptoms and then did a prick test on her back. Each little prick was for a common allergy, trees, molds, foods, etc. They did 42 test and the assistant said they could do more than 142 in two different sessions, but that was not necessary for us, thank goodness. We wrestled with Sofie to get this test done and the results were quick.
Well the purple dots was to mark where the test were going to be and the red marks are the reactions aka positive reactions. She is allergic to Eggs, Milk, 2 different type of molds, Dust, Cats, Feathers (birds), Cockroaches, Banana, Strawberries, Watermelon and Peanuts. However we have been giving her Bananas and Peanut Butter daily with no symptoms, the doctor said those came out very weak but they were reactive. We could still give them to her but watch for any reactions like rash and itching, etc. The large red mark top second row from the right...yeah that is milk..No cheese, ice cream or chocolate for this girl. Booooo..again! Ha, but I bet she will be healthier than the rest of our families.
Sad but true we now have to carry a Epipen with us for any severe reactions that may lead her to the hospital. Scary thought especially since my cousin had a pretty bad allergic reaction and was taken to ER a few years ago including 911, ambulance, siren and all but boy that seemed just like yesterday.
Chin up she is smiling and giggling trying to say new words everyday and makes us beam with joy like there is nothing to worry about. She does so many things that makes us feel like she is 100% and the few adjustments we have to make for her are well worth the effort because nothing is a sacrifice if it means she is healthy and happy.
