197:Cardiologist

Tuesday, 12182012

We had an appointment for Sofie at the Phoenix Childrens Hospital
At her three year child wellness check up her pediatrician said she heard a heart murmur
Which is when your heart makes an extra noise or irregular beat
Being that we have been to many doctors appointments this year she asked if anyone had mentioned it.  No one had, however the last two doctors appointments we had
I could tell the doctors took an extra listen and their face changed when doing
listening to her heart.
So our pediatrician referred us to a cardiologist
We went there and just at the cusp of a allergy appointment
Sofie was still sensitive to the whole doctor appointment experience.
When they did her last skin test for food allergies the nurse who did it was
"heavy handed"
and dug too deep leaving scabs and well ruined the positive doctor experience.
Anyhow we went in and started with a EKG
Stickers on her arms, legs and chest and then little clamps on the stickers.
I had done this not long ago and it took about 10 minutes however
these kiddos get the high tech service because the reading literally took a minute.
Then off to ECHO, a picture of her heart.
It was a dark room and the tech well he was a little abrasive and Sofie was not having it.
Even with cartoons on the tele.
Its okay he said we could try after the talk with the doctor
Good thing, she didn't need it.
The doctor came in and said
"Why do you think he is out of energy?"
Juan and I looked at each other confused.
Us: "Um, we don't she is here for a murmur."
Dr.: "Oh is this Boys Name?"
Us: "No."
Dr.:"Oh, Im sorry I skipped a room, I will be right back I have to see one more patient."

Okay a little freaked this lady was coming to listen and diagnose our babies heart.
But when she finally came in she got through the whole visit
totally fine until the end.

She told us after listening to her heart
that she is having pressure in the right ventricle
it could be the start of lung disease which would be consistent to her R.A.D.
the start of a leaking valve/vessel
or immature murmur
however right now all  is nothing to be concerned no ECHO needed
and come back in a year.
In the meantime,
Dr.: "make sure you give her Flovent for any coughing to relieve any pressure on the heart."
Juan: "Flovent or Albuterol? Flovent is the preventative medicine."
Dr.:"Flovent is for prevention give her Albuterol any time she is coughing and she should be okay."
without acknowledging she misspoke.
Us: "okay" Really?!

We were so nervous but trying to remain up beat Sofie can always feel and feed off our emotions.
The mention of lung disease and leaky valve/vessels our stomachs dropped to our feet.
Still a little relieved and a little worried we walked out
counting our blessings it wasn't worse.

Sofie skipping along was so excited to see all the Christmas trees at the hospital.
Focus immediately changed, no time to dwell just appreciate now and move on.
There is such a good vibe in that hospital wish they were all that way.
